The education process is inextricably linked to the context of socio-cultural needs, and the concept of the profession and the professional role of the teacher are subject to definitional changes. What social changes is 21st century society undergoing, both in terms of modernization and globalisation? Jolanta Szempruch is Professor of social sciences at the Institute of Sociological Studies at the University of Rzeszów, Poland. Her research interests focus on the sociology of education, pedeutology, educational policy, social policy, general pedagogy, early childhood pedagogy, and didactics. Mirosław Szymański is Professor of Social Sciences and Head of the Department of Social Foundations of Education Development at The Maria Grzegorzewska University in Warsaw, Poland. Beata Cieśleńska is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Pedagogy at the Mazovian Academy in Płock, Poland. She is a member of the Pedeutology Section of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Katarzyna Potyrała, PhD, is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Psychology, Pedagogy and Humanities at the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University, Poland. She is a specialist in ICT in education, didactic transformation and popularization of knowledge, education for sustainable development and health education as well as the formation in the area of cultural competences of the different groups of stakeholders, and teacher training in the face of social change.
