Overview

From the number-one bestselling author of The Cause of Death comes a book about the unlikely, extraordinary, obscure and often tragic ways humans meet their demise. A dead body without a trace of trauma, alien parasites, worms of the brain, crocodile attacks and bizarre eating disorders … In The Quick and the Dead, pathologist and self-confessed death aficionado Dr Cynric Temple-Camp takes readers into a world of disease and death as he seeks answers for those who were unlucky and those still alive to tell the tale.

Author Information

Originally from South Africa, pathologist Dr Temple-Camp spent the early part of his career in war-torn Rhodesia examining the dead and dying. He came to New Zealand in the 1970s and has since worked on over 2000 cases. Mark Davis has an unusual background for an audiobook narrator. Born and educated in the UK he spent five years in the British police force before emigrating to Melbourne, Australia. He continued his law enforcement career with the Victorian Police until 1999, rising to the rank of detective. Always having had a passion for radio, Mark presented a weekly two-hour show for radio 3RPH in Melbourne and was part of their audio description team, working on Water Rats. Mark also narrated the serialisation of the book The Feather Men by Ranulph Fiennes. Mark has recently returned from five years in Singapore where he ran his own voiceover business.
