San Francisco Chronicle.
the matchless analyst of all things urban [whose seemingly] wildly eccentric ideas on cities have been vindicated so many times, and in so many ways. The New Yorker.
This is a reprint of influential American-born Canadian urban planning activist Jane Jacobs' (1916-2006) book on Quebec independence originally published in 1980 by Random House. Long out of print, the work is based on presentations Jacobs gave in 1979 at the Massey Lectures entitled Canadian Cities and Sovereignty-Association, and considers the benefits of secession from Canada particularly from the standpoint of the economic development of two of Canada's leading cities, Montreal and Toronto. It incorporates the example of Norway's peaceable split from Sweden to argue that Quebec sovereignty is in the best interest of both the province and Canada. This edition includes a new preface discussing the continuing relevance of Jacob's ideas as well as a previously unpublished interview on this subject and more from 2005.
