Overview

When her brother vanishes in the night, along with all she thought to be true of magic, Parker Pennymore must unmask family secrets, travel far beyond the castle walls, and convince her sisters Quinn and Aven to break a few laws along the way - but what's a hero's journey without a little rebellion? We couldn't put it down. - New York Weekly Exceptional and Filled with heart - Latin Post The new fantasy series delighting fans of Harry Potter, Narnia, Percy Jackson, Land of Stories, The Wingfeather Saga, & the Hobbit. Created first as a bedtime story, The Pennymores explores a world where all writing has been banned for centuries (a setting inspired by the true-life events of Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai). But when an unstoppable enemy returns threatening the destroy their world, the Pennymores must set off on a quest taking them inside hidden mystical realms, confronting ancient challenges, and forcing them to step closer to the heroes they are destined to be. The Pennymores is a family-friendly quest perfect for middle-grade and young adult readers who love fantasy, mystery, adventure, and magical realism, including dwarves, trolls, elves, talking animals, and powerful wizards. Featuring dynamic, witty, funny, and brave sisters, the book harkens to classic fantasy stories and fairy tales, with its own set of twists and surprises keeping the reader guessing. The Pennymores shares the power of writing, as we uncover an ancient world where magic writers lived in harmony until a great war forced the ancients to ban magic writing forever, and soon anti-writing zealots used force to stop all writing. This supernatural adventure story, filled with atmosphere, twists, the sublime and dripping with heart (New York Weekly) features fast-paced action, surprising twists, spunky, funny, and relatable characters exploring fantastical magic and is perfect for fans of Narnia, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and more. Praise for The Pennymores from early readers: I'm more attached to it than any book I've read - Jack (10) My kids won't stop talking about this book and these characters. Nicole F. (San Diego) I loved it so much that I read it again and again. Kate (10) Our class is in love with this book. - Mary Ann M (8th grade English teacher, Oshkosh, WI) I want to be a Pennymore sister. - Audrey (8) Finally a new series for my kids who read every Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Lord of the Rings, and Narnia book. Jeff K. (Omaha) A portion of the proceeds of the Pennymores benefits the Malala Fund for children's literacy.

Reviews

The [Pennymores] was created much the way Percy Jackson and The Lord of the Rings began-as oral bedtime stories from a parent to children-and Koester shares how he worked with his daughters (who share first names with the Pennymore sisters) to create the imaginative, creative settings in the book. It's a supernatural adventure story, filled with atmosphere, twists, the sublime and dripping with heart that fans of classic young adult and middle-grade fantasy stories from Harry Potter to Percy Jackson, and from Narnia to The School of Good & Evil will love. - New York Weekly Look out Percy and Harry Potter because the Pennymore siblings are ready for their time. A terrific book for sure that has me buying a feather quill and an inkwell to see if I can write a little magic myself. Perfect for any Potterheads, Demigods, Narnia-fans, or Hobbit lovers. Absolutely worth the read! 9.5+ of 10. - Artist Weekly The Pennymores & the Curse of the Invisible Quill by Eric Koester (The Pennymores: Book 1) is a perfect read for middle-grade readers and young adult readers (plus parents will love the delightful quips and subtleties if they read together or read to a younger child). The book has a wonderful ending that'll leave you anxious for the rest of the series. Five Stars. - Latin Post The Pennymores is a delightful, gripping, fast-paced fantasy adventure novel that harkens to predecessors from Narnia and The Hobbit to the more recent Percy Jackson, The School of Good and Evil, and Harry Potter. And like all these beloved middle-grade books, the Pennymores offers readers its own unique, daring, and delightful twist on the genre that begs for a sequel (and maybe a movie, television show, or animated series, we hope). - Los Angeles Weekly This first book in the anticipated series is rich and robust, with a unique plot, detailed characterization, and a complex fantasy world built on familiar characters but with an original spin through the lens of writing magic. JK Rowling (Harry Potter) and Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson) ushered in a great deal of young adult and middle-grade fantasy, and honestly, there's quite a lot of derivative worlds built on magic schools, camps, or trips. But this is new, clever, and certainly intriguing, and masterful. - LA Wire
