Overview

This is the story of a good boy who didn't like school. He considered it useless and intrusive in his life. To him, the value of school and the 3R's of reading, writing, and 'rithmetic were fuzzy, at best. His definition of school would trade those R's for T's that would include Traumatic and Terrible. Eventually, Terrific filled out the list to 3. The strong bond between he and his Grammy helped him see that school is full of craziness worth experiencing, humor worth enjoying, and lessons worth learning as they wrote this book together. It's a fun journey through 2nd semester, 3rd grade, that changed Jack's perspective and allowed him to love school. The Match between opponents became The Match of a positive partnership between Jack and School.

Author Information

Jane E. Dickerson is a retired teacher and former radio/television, writer/producer of shows for children. The Filling Station won 10 national awards (8 Angel Awards, 1 A.C.E. Award, and 1 Religious Broadcasting Award) in the 1980's. Currently she tutors, writes books and develops curriculum materials. She is writer and developer of the Hands of Champions math program, the Laurel with a Moral collection of children's stories, Genesis in Poetic Verse, and The Mustache, a Love Story. This latest book, The Match, was written with her 9-yr old grandson. She also writes songs, including 2 musicals: The Family Album and The Five Colors of Multiplication (for school performances.)
