Liss studied Literature at Bard College and Environmental Studies at Southampton College and taught courses in both fields in New York and Maine. She won a prize for her poetry at 17 years old, and was published in the Smith College literary magazine. She lived in Montauk, New York for 13 years and now lives in Maine.
