Overview"Ronald ""Ronnie"" Kray and Reginald ""Reggie"" Kray, identical twin brothers born on 24th October 1933, Hoxton, London, England, UK, were West End nightclub owners and gangsters, the main leaders of organised crime in the East End of London during the 1950s and 1960s. With their gang, known as ""The Firm"", the Krays were involved in murder, armed robbery, arson, protection rackets and grievous bodily harm. The pair mixed with politicians and prominent entertainers including Diana Dors, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland, becoming celebrities during the 1960s, being photographed by David Bailey and interviewed on TV. The twins were arrested on 8th May 1968 then convicted the following year, following the investigations of detectives led by Detective Superintendent Leonard ""Nipper"" Read. Both were sentenced to life imprisonment, Ronnie having remained in Broadmoor Hospital until his death on 17th March 1995. Reggie was released from prison on compassionate grounds during August 2000, 8 1/2 weeks before he died of bladder cancer."
