OverviewExcerpt from The Holy Bible: Containing the Old and New Testaments; Translated Out of the Original Tongues; And With the Former Translations Diligently Compared and Revised, by His Majesty's Special Command Then, not to fufl'er this to fall to the ground, but rather to take it up, and to continue it in that fiate wherein the famous Predecefi'or of Your Highnefs did leave it nay, to go forward with the confidence and refolution of a man, in maintaining the truth of Chrilt, and propagating it far and near, is that which hath fo bound and firmly knit the hearts of all Your Majefiy's loyal and religious people unto You, that Your very name is precious among them their eye doth behold You with comfort, and they blefs You in their hearts, as that fanetified Perfon, who, under God, is the immediate author of their true happinefs. And this their contentment doth not diminifh or decay, but every day increafeth and taketh firength, when the obferve that the zeal of Your Majefty toward the houfe of God doth not {lack or go bac 'ward, but is more and more kindled, manifefiing itfelf abroad in the fartheft parts of Cbriflendom, by writin in defence of the truth, (which hath given fuch a blow unto that Man of Sin as will not e healed, ) and every day at home, b religious and learned difcourfe, by frequenting the houfe of God, by hearin the Wor preached, by tchelrifiiing the teachers thereof, by caring for the Church, as a mo tender and loving nurfing at er. There are infinite arguments of this right Chriltian and religious affection in Your Majeity but none is more forcible to declare it to others than the vehement and perpetuated defire of accomplilhing and publifhing of this Work, which now, with all humi ity, we prefent unto Your Majefty. For when Your Highnefs had once, out of deep judgment, apprehended how convenient it was, that, out of the Original facred Tongues, together with comparing of the labours, both in our own and other foreign languages, of many worthy men who went before us, there fhould be one more exaet tranflation of the Holy Scriptures into the Eni/b Tongue; Your Majefiy did never defift to urge and to excite thofe to whom it was commended, that the Work might be haftened, and that the bufinefs might be expedited in fo decent a manner, as a matter of fuch importance might jufily require.
