During the Cold War, he was stationed in Berlin and spied for the Americans against the Russians. In 1991, he was an Intelligence officer during Desert Storm, stationed on the front lines with the Marines. From 2003-2007, Meehan served three tours to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, earning a Bronze Star for actions in Balad. He has written four other novels and teaches college in Florida.
