Table of ContentsReviewsReviewed By Jack Magnus for Readers' Favorite The Great Camp Escape is a children's picture book story written by R.C. Wittig. Cameron, his sister, Bridget, and their cousin, Quinn, loved playing outdoors by their grandmother's house. There were so many things to do, and they always had so much fun. Then one day Grandma told them that they'd be going to camp the following week. Bridget and Quinn were excited about camp, but Cameron wasn't at all sure about it. Cameron didn't like trying new things, and camp certainly sounded new and different. When it was finally time to go, however, Grandma made sure that everyone had their camping gear, and the four of them drove out to Camp Newtown. It was a long journey, and when they finally arrived they were met by Jake, a friendly and enthusiastic counselor. He told them about the fun things they would learn to do that summer, but Cameron's mind was set on escaping with his sister and their cousin the very next morning. Lots of kids -- and adults -- are reluctant to break away from their established patterns and try different things. They often miss out on opportunities for growth, fun and adventure. The Great Camp Escape addresses that issue in a most entertaining way. I was awed by Jake and his marvelous attitude towards encouraging kids to reach beyond their comfort zones. By helping Cameron effect his great escape, Jake introduces new skills to him in a non-threatening and positive manner. I also loved the fact that Bridget is the sibling who is athletic and strong. The Great Camp Escape is a grand fable for helping kids get past that reluctance to try new things and experiences. The story line is fun and engaging, and the illustrations make it all come alive. The Great Camp Escape is most highly recommended. Author InformationBorn and Montebello, California, R. C. Wittig spent a decade in the film industry before following her true passion as a writer.
