Arthur Symons Author InformationSarojini Naidu (1879–1949) was an Indian activist and politician, who is notable for being the first Governor of United Provinces after India became independent. In her lifetime she was also a successful poet, and her leader and friend Mahatma Gandhi dubbed her the 'Nightingale of India'.
