He has published widely on the policy and politics of energy transitions with a global perspective. He is also Professor of Innovation and Sustainability at Technische Universität Berlin. Before his research career, he worked at the World Bank in Washington DC. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Freie Universität Berlin. Yana Zabanova is a Research Associate at the Research Institute for Sustainability – Helmholtz Centre Potsdam (RIFS Potsdam). Her areas of expertise include the geopolitics and geoeconomics of the energy transition in the European Union and globally, with a special focus on EU hydrogen policy. She is also a PhD candidate at the University of Groningen and is working on a dissertation on advocacy coalitions for renewable energy and clean hydrogen development in Eurasian oil and gas producing countries.
