Reviews

In this book the editors, Cleophus LaRue and Luiz Nascimento, bring together an extraordinary global panel of scholar-preachers from Brazil, Mexico, Cuba, India, the African Caribbean, Trinidad-Tobago, Singapore, Indonesia, and Nigeria to think critically about the most appropriate ways to preach the gospel in their various contexts. Since the axis of global Christianity has moved from the Western world to the Global South, the principles for interpreting the gospel must now come from the Southern Hemisphere. That fact alone makes this book a required reading for all interested in effective ways for communicating the gospel both at home and round the world. --Peter Paris, Professor Emeritus of Christian Social Ethics, Princeton Theological Seminary A gripping, awe-inspiring preaching of the biblical text must, of necessity, be contextually relevant. Given the gradual and progressive transition in the shift of Christianity to the Global South, this volume on the emerging genres and methodologies of Christian preaching in those affected areas is quite expedient and timely. . . . This work is a must-read for students of homiletics globally to grasp the diversity of preaching. --Joel K. T. Biwul, Professor of Old Testament and Pastoral Theology, ECWA Theological Seminary (JETS), Nigeria North American homiletics finds itself fragmented and losing energy. But in the Global South, the wind of the Spirit is blowing, giving vitality to the church and boldness to preaching. LaRue and Nascimento have brought the wisest homiletical voices from the Global South into the banquet hall, and the conversation just got much livelier. Fifty years ago, we couldn't have imagined a book like this. Now we can't imagine homiletics without it. --Thomas G. Long, Professor Emeritus of Preaching, Candler School of Theology, Emory University Diverse and distinct approaches to preaching, like African-American preaching, have sprung up in the two-thirds world of the Southern Hemisphere, where the majority of Christians live today. . . . This unique book in homiletics is a must-read for students and pastors alike who want to learn about preaching in a global context. --Ajit A. Prasadam, General Secretary, India Sunday School Union
