OverviewThe Flight of a Monarch is a collection of poems about a young boy and his family pursuing a better life in America after leaving their country. However, crossing the border turns out to be less difficult than growing up with an undocumented status looming over his head. Because it is hard to find work without citizenship, his family has to face consequences of surviving as a poor family in America. And when one day his stepfather walks out on their family, he must learn not only how to keep himself alive, but also how to support his struggling family. This work explores the themes of freedom, hope, and belonging through the eyes of an undocumented immigrant in America.
