There are those who feel convinced that a communication with the dead exists, and those who - ii they have given a thought to the matter at all - consider it all but insane to assume such a com munication. The former group consists of the believing spiritualists, who without much criticism accept most things that purport to be messages from the departed; but it includes withal men and women who regard psychical research as a science, and cultivate it in a scientific manner. Of the latter and much larger group, it may on the whole be said that its members know little or nothing about the question as a rule, those who have occupied themselves with it have left the standpoint described above.
