Overview

The Muslim world, one or two countries excepted, stretches on, or in, the vicinity of the most fragile ecosystems in the world, i.e. on the edge of/in the desert. This should have induced Muslims and their leaders to be the most environmentally friendly/careful people on earth, protecting their farmlands, waters and forests as if they were made of glass. This should not have been too difficult, for Islam, the faith, whether in the Qur'an or in the sayings of the Prophet, in tens if not hundreds of passages, insists on the protection, nurturing, and even augmenting such resources (trees in particular). Instead, perhaps no nation as much as the Muslim nation, including both ordinary people but also, and most of, all its deciders, is engaged in a war a l'outrance against the environment. Facts we shall see in this work, from hundreds of sources by Muslims and non Muslims, researchers and government bodies, the UN, FAO, the World Bank, Islamic, Arab organisations, without one single exception, agree on the systemic and frightful rates of deforestation, pollution, destruction of farming lands, water sources, and raw waste thrown into rivers, extinction of fish stocks, and some rates of noise, air, and marine pollution the highest in the world. What is lamentable is that such facts are known and even admitted by all, and even at the highest levels, but the will to resolve them is always lacking. Consequently, no study or expert making projections for the years 2050-2060 sees any hope for the Muslim world, especially in respect to its water resources or capacity to feed itself. Unless the Almighty decrees a new ice age, an undetermined number of Muslims will pay the ultimate price.
