Overview

Sometimes you're better off alone. That's what Lisa Naylor decided when she was sixteen. After two years of keeping secrets from her parents, she's ready to leave her dysfunctional family and create her own future. Alone in a big city for the first time, she lets loose and blows through all the money she had so carefully saved. By the end of the summer, she's broke, lonely, and doesn't have a plan. A chance encounter challenges her to take control of her life and make something out of it. Four years later, she's transformed into someone confident, successful, and about to make a childhood dream come true. Then, one phone call changes everything. She must choose whether to rescue her mom and risk her own dream or turn her back on her family for good. The Cost of Caring is the story of one woman's transformation and the way her choices change the lives of the people around her.

"""The author is really good at portraying strong women who leave behind a bad situation and improve their lives through a lot determination, hard work and make good friends along the way. Lisa is a no-nonsense, hard working woman and it was a pleasure spending a few hours following her. I even found myself tearing up towards the end. I am looking forward to book 3."" ""I love this delightful and touching story. It's about a young woman named Lisa who left her dysfunctional family at the age of 18 to move to the city and start her life on her own. At first, she didn't have big goals. She just wanted to make a living and live her life on her terms. But after meeting a successful woman named Janet, her goals became bigger. She started to work hard at achieving them by working two jobs, going to school, sacrificing and saving. Living on her own was the first time in her life; she had friends and didn't have to hide what she was doing. Like she had done when she was living with her abusive father. Four years later she was making a good living and saved almost enough money to achieve her dreams. Everything seemed to be on track with her life until she got a call from her mother which changed her life forever. For a while, it seemed her life was on halt and overwhelmed. However, it became a journey of forgiveness, transformation, and love."" ""Lisa is a very determined young woman originally driven by her desire to get away from her father, but then transforming into a steadfast and clever woman who finds out that her dreams can become a reality. Maria is a woman, who, for years was repressed by her husband; leaving her unsure of herself or any decisions that she might be 'allowed' to make. Luckily, for her, through unforeseen circumstances, gets her chance at a new life."""

Author Information

Carmen Klassen is a new author with an old soul. After spending her whole life reading about inspiring women, she's finally launching her own fiction series. The Success on Her Terms series is the first group of stories about women who come from harsh pasts and create brilliant futures. Carmen comes from small-town British Columbia, Canada and has lived in California and Scotland before making her way back home. She enjoys scenic walks with her husband and rescue dog, a good cup of coffee, Mediterranean food, doing puzzles with her kids (when they are feeling especially generous with their time) and curling up with a good book on a rainy day (or a sunny day, or really any day).
