Overview

The author is an acknowledged historian on the American approach to the martial arts and he spends time covering the development of the arts of karate and tae kwon do (the two most popular styles) in the United States. He includes biographies of some of the most famous figures in American karate. The Forewords are by Jhoon Rhee, world-renowned 10th Degree Black Belt, known as the Father of American Tae Kwon Do, martial arts instructor for Muhammad Ali, Jack Anderson, George Allen Sr., Bob Livingston, Tony Robbins, Jack Valenti and over 300 U. S. Senators and House Representatives.Chuck Norris, action movie star of numerous feature films, television star of Walker, Texas Ranger, and martial arts star, he has won many martial arts championships, including being a six-time undefeated World Professional Middleweight Karate Champion. Chuck was also a renowned teacher in the martial arts. Some of his students were Hollywood luminaries such as Steve McQueen and Priscilla Presley. Many books skip over the philosophy of the martial arts but many parents (and adult students) are interested in this critical aspect of training. As an instructor at the famed Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research and a monthly fitness columnist for one of the major martial arts magazines the author gives a unique and highly qualified perspective on the physical aspects of training.
