HILL served for several years as the pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Fayetteville, NY. According to Frank Leslie's Sunday Magazine, Vol. XII (July-December 1882), he dissolved his pastoral relationship effective October 1, 1882, in order to serve as a missionary to China. There are reasons to doubt the accuracy of that report, however, since The Presbyterian Monthly Record, Vol. 33, records his missionary destination as Guatemala la Neuva, Guatemala. His appointment to Guatemala appears to be confirmed by the Annual Report of the Presbyterian Church in the USA Board of Foreign Missions, Vol. 46, p 115. His evangelical vision for Christian missions is recorded in The Gospel in All Lands, Vol. VI (July-December 1882), pp. 83-84. TIMOTHY MATTHEW SLEMMONS is Professor of Homiletics and Worship at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. In addition to several worship resources, homiletical writings, and his recent translation of the Sermons on the First Epistle of John, by the Swiss Reformer Johannes Oecolampadius, his books include The Freedom of Christ: Sermons on Galatians, and the illustrated stories, The Secret of Salix Babylonicus: A Parable of the Weeping Willow and A Phenomenal Llama: A Tall Christmas Tale for Children of All Ages, inspired by the intergenerational Christmas sermons of the late David H. C. Read. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
