Overview

Excerpt from The Century Bible, Vol. 2: Exodus; Introduction; Revised Version With Notes, Giving an Analysis Showing From Which of the Original Documents Each Portion of the Text Is Taken; Index and Map Our' book is Of immense importance for Revealed Religion, partly on account of the light it throws on the social and religious history of Israel. Its value largely arises from the way' in which it was composed; it is the last Offseveral editions 'of the history and laws of the Chosen People; and thus it preserves for us traditions from many sources and periodsz. Briefly, two collections of traditions and customary law were compiled some tinie before the Fall of Samaria, B. C. 721 these two collections may be called the Primitive Document 3 and the Elohistic Document; they passed through various editions, and were ultimately combined into a single work, and were further combined with other documents, notably' the Priestly Document 5, composed sometime after'the Exile. Other minor additions were made later, until our Exodus was completed In its present form. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
