For the next 28 years he held several different assignments, but he became fixated on the role of detective. He primarily worked as a homicide detective and started in South-Central Los Angeles, and he eventually retired as a detective supervisor from Robbery-Homicide Division, (RHD). As a result of his assignment within RHD he became recognized as a court expert in Officer-Involved Shooting investigations and taught OIS investigative procedures for the International Associations of Chiefs of Police and The State of California Department of Justice. His teaching also included crime scene investigation at Fullerton College. Prior to his retirement he was involved in helping develop a major case management system and serial murder tracking system. He is a certified State of California crime and intelligence analyst. Ron currently resides in Anthem, Arizona, with his wife Darlene, a retired registered nurse. After graduating first in his LAPD Academy class, Tom Lorenzen went on to distinguish himself as a field training officer, an accomplished vice investigator, and a trusted and respected patrol supervisor. His tenure as a lieutenant is highlighted by his success as a tactical platoon leader and swat team commander in the elite Metro Division. During this period, Lorenzen was called by Congress to testify as an expert witness in police special operations following the failed raid by the FBI on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas. As a Captain, Lorenzen served as Chief Investigator, Internal Affairs, and as the Commanding Officer, Southeast Area.
