Author Information

The author lives and trains in California. The author has been a student, training and teaching in martial arts since 1984 after earning a Cho Dan (1st degree) Black Belt in Moo Duk Kwan Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do. Later, the author earned a 3rd Dan Black Belt with the International Soo Bahk Do Association. Len has been teaching and using meditation (Zen) in his own life for more than 20 years to bring order, wisdom, humility, understanding, patience and self-awareness. Len augments his martial arts practice with meditation, strength-based weight training, boxing training and long distance running. Meditation keeps the author in touch with his body-mind-spirit, allowing him to train at higher levels of performance while minimizing injuries. Len has written and published more than 25 martial arts magazine articles and editorials related to both martial arts and meditation for magazines including the prestigious Mudo Dojang, Tae Kwon Do Times and Black Belt. Many of Len's articles illustrate the forgotten history and evolution of Korean martial arts he has uncovered. For this reason, Len's many of his articles are translated into different languages around the world because of their excellent historical content, unavailable otherwise. Len's magazine articles also appear on large and small martial arts organizations web sites in the U.S. and internationally. Len has also published 25 books on Korean martial arts and meditation. Some of these books include the traditional Korean styles of Tang Soo Do, Soo Bahk and Tae Kwon Do martial arts. One of Len's books for choosing the right style for your child received the Good Housekeeping magazine's Seal of Approval. Academically, Len has earned three A.A. degrees in Physics and mathematics and Liberal Arts, two B.S. degrees in Physics and Mathematics simultaneously, an M.A. degree and Ph.D in Electrical Engineering and an M.A. degree in Education. Professionally, the author is an award winning spacecraft designer and he design satellites and rockets for the U.S. military and NASA as well as national and international civil companies and government organizations such as INTELSAT and Space Communications Corporation companies located in Japan. Len's most important accomplishment professionally occurred when he was responsible for getting the U.S. Air Force's Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite-based navigation system funded by the DoD, replacing two existing navigation systems in place by the U.S. Navy.
