Overview"I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth, but it tarnished. At least, that's what I was told. Life as I knew it fell apart when I was just 4 years old and it would continue to go downhill for several years afterwards. What did I learn from these experiences? The world doesn't owe you anything. If you want to make something of yourself, it will be up to you to take ownership and accountability of the outcome. A mentor once said I was ""fearless in my ability to address risks, viewing them as walls to jump over rather than barriers to stop me"" - and he was right. I try not to let anything stand in my way when I am pursuing a goal. Follow along with me on my journey of self-discovery and how I managed to navigate all of the lessons life had to throw my way. Instead of letting them knock me down, I used these lessons as stepping stones on the path to success, turning tragedy into triumph to embrace my destiny in entrepreneurship." Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationSerena Holmes was born in 1981 and raised east of Toronto, Ontario, in Scarborough, Stouffville, and then Pickering, which is where she still resides today. She graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism but pivoted into the world of events. Shortly after graduating, an opportunity to partner on a new business venture presented itself. The founder left the company just 4 years in, so Serena took the risk to buy her out as the world was staring down the 2008 recession. Since that time, Serena has been able to grow the agency substantially to more than 2,500 part-time event staff and managers across Canada and the United States. Her agency has been recognized for its work, taking home 15 awards since 2014 along with more than a dozen other nominations. When Serena isn't busy with her business, she is spending time with her husband, her daughter and her two miniature chocolate pinschers. Prior to the pandemic, she also loved to travel; so much so, she and her husband got married at an exotic destination in Thailand.Note: Serena Holmes lays the foundation for her book by describing the challenges she experienced growing up and how she leveraged these experiences to use as stepping stones on the path to success.
