Overview

Finding the Wholeness, Community, and Meaning that Money Couldn't Buy Have you ever looked around your house and wondered, How did I get so much stuff? That stuff gets loud. Studies have shown that excessive amounts of clutter rob us of joy, peace, and rest, giving us instead, stress and anxiety, less sleep, lowered productivity, and diminished overall wellness. And yet, we keep consuming more and more of the many things we still apparently need to be happy and whole. In 2010, Marcy looked around her house, surrounded by all the clutter, and felt ill. She realized that they'd been stuck in a cycle of consumerism-swept into a culture of convenience without any awareness of it, and knew that something had to change. They decided as a family, that they wanted no more-more. At first, this journey was not easy, but over time they discovered many benefits, including an increased level of well-being, more meaning in life, and a deeper appreciation for what they already had. What they hadn't counted on was their movement becoming a tidal wave that spread into their community and beyond. They found others who wanted to follow this newfound freedom too. They also wanted to do their part to end mass-production, and ultimately, find happiness and peace because of it. The Abundance of Less has the answer to break away from this cycle of more. In this book, Marcy bares all about their journey, outlining not only the successes, but the failures too. This book will leave you questioning whether what you're holding on to in life is really that important, and in turn, will lead you to find your own path to happiness.

Reviews

Don't read this unless you are ready to be convicted-in a good way! I read this book not really thinking I would get a lot out of it because I am not one to spend money on new things...or so I thought! This book made me realize that even me, the thrifty one that I am, spends money on used things I can really do without. It is a really good book about the excess stuff in our lives. I am not a bit surprised about how good this book is though, because Marcy is such a good writer. I think she could write about what life is like from under a rock and I would enjoy it and laugh out loud! She has a way of writing that make the reader feel like she is sitting on the couch with you having a causal conversation. I have read other books written by Marcy Pusey and they also have that same real person, I have known you forever feel to them. I highly recommend not only this book but any book she has written. Way to hit it out of the park, again Ms Pusey! --Pjf In 2010, Marcy looked around her house, surrounded by all the clutter, and felt ill. She realized that they'd been stuck in a cycle of consumerism-swept into a culture of convenience without any awareness of it, and knew that something had to change. They decided as a family, that they wanted no more-more. Recently I looked around my house and hated the look of it. Stuff everywhere, old toys no longer used, or just clutter resting in places with no purpose. So I packed up 200 books and took them to the library, sold all my movies, and started feeling better the moment the house looked...cleaner. It got me thinking Why all this stuff? It adds stress and weighs you down keeping you trapped. And that was when I found the Abundance of less, that talks about exactly what I've been going through. Listening to Marcy's story as she walks readers through her journey of buying nothing for one year is exactly what I needed. As someone who has always been addicted to impulse buying, there has never been a better time for this great gem. -Scott Alan
