His interest in World War II, and especially in Adolf Hitler, - a failed painter and a mere ex-soldier who ascended to Chancellor a proud nation - commenced around 1960. Then able to access relevant works, he studied the German language and culture, and read of the atrocities Hitler perpetrated upon innocent Jews, the Gypsies, and homosexuals. In 1983, he immigrated to Australia where his interest in writing resulted in articles on cultural events being published in a national newspaper. Short stories followed, culminating his first novel.
