Tang Soo Do Korean Empty Hand Self-Defense Complete Book of Hyungs includes step-by-step written instructions and drawings for learning the 25 Tang Soo Do Hyungs including: Kee Cho Il Bu, Kee Cho E Bu, Kee Cho Sum Bu, Pyung Cho Dan, Pyung Ahn E Dan, Pyung Ahn Sum Dan, Pyung Sa Dan, Pyung Oh Dan, Nai Hanji Cho Dan, Nai Hanji E Dan, Nai Hanji Sum Dan, Bassai Cho, Bassai Dai, Jiin, Ship Sum (Sip Soo), Jion, Ginto, Jitti, Wang Shu, Kang Sang Koon So, Kang Sang Koon Dai, O Sip Sa Bo Dai, Tae Kuek Kwan So, Tae Keuk Kwon Dai and Sojin. Also included is a unique history of Tang Soo Do, the relationship between each Hyung and it's symbol (usually an animal), the importance to Tang Soo Do as taught by the early Korean Kwans and a definition of the Korean Kwan leaders. All the early minor and major Kwans and the Kwan creators and their styles taught at each Kwan is included. Almost 1000 new drawings have been added for the reader to better understand each step of each Hyung. Each drawing is numbered and matches with a numbered written instruction. Line drawings are included matching Hyung movements and directions of motion for each of step of the Hyungs providing a high level perspective drawing of the area a practitioner moves through as he executes each Hyung. These diagrams allows the practitioner to see the Hyungs in several perspectives to better understand what the creator had intended. It also includes is a matrix for correlating the Korean Hyungs to its Japanese and Okinawan Kata counterpart illustrating which ones are the same or similar. An East-West chronology included illustrates the development of Korean Martial Arts to events around the world and over centuries. The book is to be used only as a learning aid to supplement the formal instructions from a Black Belt Tang Soo Do Instructor. These aids are not intended to replace an Instructor nor to be used to learn the Hyungs before an Instructor decides a student is ready to do so

Author Information

The author lives and trains California. Len has earned 5th Dan Black Belts in Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwon Do. Len has been training in martial arts since he joined his first Tae Kwon Do class after graduating college. Len began teaching martial arts after earning a Cho Dan (1st degree) Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do after 8 years of training and testing. Len augments his martial arts with meditation, weight training, boxing training in speed bag, heavy bag and long distance running. Meditation techniques keeps his body-mind-spirit in-tack, allowing him to train at higher levels of performance while minimizing injuries. Len has written and published both magazine articles and books related to martial arts for several martial arts magazines including the prestigious World of Martial Arts, Tae Kwon Do Times, Black Belt and Mudo Dojang. Many of Len's articles illustrate the lost history and evolution of Korean martial arts. For this reason, Len's articles are often republished around the world because of their excellent historical content. Len's magazine articles also appear on many martial arts web sites in the United States and around the world. One of Len's books for Children received the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. Len currently has more than 25 years of martial arts experience in three different styles of Korean martial arts. He has also studied in other styles of Shotokan and Wing Chun. Academically, Len has earned a B.S. degree in Physics and Math, an M.S. degree and Ph.D in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. degree in Education. Len had worked professionally as a Teacher, Physicist, Astrophysicist, Nuclear Physicist, an aerospace engineer, a Mechanical Engineer and an Electrical Engineer designing digital and RF communications systems and spacecraft for NASA and the U.S. Air Force. Some of the author's satellites he designed include the Boeing/Air Force's GPS constellation of satellites. The author was responsible for the GPS program winning funding by the Pentagon. The author is also responsible for the design and test of NASA's GOES-Next geostationary weather and space science satellites, NASA's Extreme Ultra-Violet Explorer Low earth orbiting space science satellite, NASA's International Space Station and NASA's Space Shuttles for launching GPS satellites 4 at a time. He works as an executive in the computer, telecommunications and aerospace and defense companies.
