In the period 1980-1984 he has been working in the department Cultuurstudies (culture studies) of the Surinamese Ministry of Education and Culture in Paramaribo, Suriname. Together with his assistants of Javanese descent Johan Sarmo and Wonny Karijopawiro, he has been working on a dictionary of Surinamese Javanese, the Surinamese variant of the Javanese language, finally resulting in the Surinamese Javanese - Dutch dictionary (2001). Some of his articles were published in Oso, journal for Surinamistics and the Carribean, about the Surinamese Javanese language, orthography, folktales and toponymy.
