Overview"""It's much too soon for dreidels. The shofar has been blown. But look-Sukkot is coming! Let's eat-say yes by phone."" Shelley and Jimmy Mindel help to build and decorate a sukkah, prepare a holiday lunch for family and friends, and handle four unexpected (green) guests with care, resulting in a sweet mitzvah (a ""good deed""). A first lost tooth and a note from the tooth fairy add an extra layer of warmth and charm to this rhyming tale. Back matter includes a glossary called SWEET WORDS, filled with definitions and pronunciations of Yiddish and Hebrew words sprinkled throughout the story, such as chag sameach (""happy holiday""), nosh (""snack""), and rugelach (""a small cookie with a cream-cheese dough that is rolled around a filling, such as nuts, chocolate or jam""); an ""All About Sukkot"" spread in verse; sheet music for two new songs, ""Sukkah-Doodle-Doo!"" and ""Let's Go Out to the Sukkah!"" sung to the tunes of ""Give My Regards to Broadway"" and ""Take Me Out to the Ball Game,"" respectively; and recipes for noodle kugel and chocolate chip mandel bread (cookies). FROM THE BACK COVER: HAPPY SUKKOT! You're here at the sweetest time of year to meet the Mindel family, owners of the Sarah Mindel Mandel Bread Company. Their slogan: ""Oh my gosh-what a nosh!"" The head of the company is Sarah Mindel-Nana to her grandkids, Shelley and Jimmy. Her picture is on the box. The cookie factory is always busy, but when Sukkot approaches, orders are, ahem, through the roof! To get ready for the holiday, the family will build and decorate a sukkah and make all the preparations for a special lunch. Best of all? You're invited! But shhh . . . unbeknownst to the Mindels, this Sukkot will be full of surprises. Fun songs and recipes inside!" She is a nonpracticing member of the Maryland Bar. While in law school, she spent many hours in the library reading ROMEO AND JULIET and drafting stories when she really should have been studying torts or contracts. Ultimately, the call of literature was too strong, and she followed her dream to become a writer, editor, and book publisher. Other books she has written include AVRAM'S GIFT (illustrated by Laurie McGaw), THE SCOOP ON GOOD GRAMMAR, and SUNNY BUNNIES (illustrated by June Goulding). Margie Blumberg resides in Bethesda, Maryland, where she enjoys baking, biking, backgammon, books, and movies. Tammie Lyon's love of illustrating began at a very young age while drawing at the kitchen table with her dad. She recalls sitting for hours drawing things around the house and later presenting her art as gifts to her mother. After graduating with a bachelor's in fine arts from Columbus College of Art and Design, she worked as a staff illustrator for a major greeting card company and rose to become a director of the juvenile product line. As a freelance artist, Tammie has illustrated numerous books, including her own children's book, OLIVE AND SNOWFLAKE (Marshall Cavendish), and has also created the art for posters, magazines, CDs, games, and clothing. Tammie lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, with her husband, Lee. Her two dogs, Amos and Artie, love spending the day with her in her studio. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
