OverviewAt around 10 AM on 15 January 1947, Betty Bersinger, a resident of Los Angeles, California was walking along South Norton Avenue between Coliseum Street and West 39th Street in Leimert Park. It was a residential suburb with several open, grassy lots waiting to be bought and turned into private residential housing units. With her was her three-year-old daughter in a stroller. As they passed a vacant lot, Bersinger saw what she thought was a discarded mannequin separated at the waist. Taking a closer look, however, Bersinger was horrified to discover that it was not a mannequin she was looking at. It was an actual human corpse that had been neatly cut up into two pieces.
