Overview

One of a three part martial arts series, Mind-Body-Spirit, this book of the Spirit looks at the non-physical part of a person that lies at the seat of emotions and character. Spirit under this definition is divided into two approaches that we seek to positively develop through martial arts training. The first is the attitude or intentions we bring to something that is used as motivation to drive us towards a goal. The second is the animating force within all living things that is the outward energy and enthusiasm we bring to an activity. These aspects are developed and nurtured through self-discipline, etiquette, wisdom, lifestyle, and exercise, plus other important factors covered in this book.

Author Information

Barry Barker (aka Mr. B), is the father of 5 kids, with 6 grandkids, and has promoted over 65 Black Belts as of this writing. He is currently an 8th Degree Black Belt in American Kenpo, a Licensed Acupuncturist, and has been a full-time school owner and teacher for over 31 years, running Poway Kenpo Karate/Poway Martial Arts, which he founded in 1984. Mr. Barker became interested in martial arts after watching Bruce Lee. He first enrolled in martial arts at Brian Adams Kenpo Karate School in San Diego, California in 1973, with Parker Linekin as his instructor. Mr. Barker is highly respected and appreciated by his students and has also been recognized more formally by being inducted into several different Halls of Fame, along with recognition for civic works.
