OverviewExcerpt from South African Studies South African quarrel, and I confess that after reading them again I have found little or nothing to alter. I believe to-day, as I believed five years ago, that the oligar chical system of government in the Trans vaal, now known to history as Krugerism, was unjust and impossible; and that for the salvation of the Boer as well as for the peace of South Africa and the interests of civilization, its demolition was both just and inevitable. It had to be mended or ended, and Mr. Kruger selected the latter alterna tive. In dealing with the whole question I have endeavoured to be impartial and I hope not entirely without success.
