OverviewIn this 130-segment opus, Krishna maps out the geography of his angst tracing simultaneously the contours of the physical and psychical landscapes through which he has stumbled en route to an unexpected fortieth birthday. Song is also the unromantic saga of the fall of the two bloodlines which claim the barefoot boy - the one by blood, the other by bond of matrimony. From the mating of these two failing extended families, there issues a nuclear family - a new bloodline embodied in three bareback boys whose chance appearance give the bemused new patriarch a new lease on life as well as new cause for an ambivalence which alternates between apprehension and anticipation of their future. Having read each line carefully, one concludes that the poem is insistently self-referential, almost to the point of being autistic. It carefully spells out its intent, content and form. Each line is a narrative; each narrative shapes the line. Each segment is a self-contained unit without immediate reference to its predecessor or successor. One can begin reading almost anywhere; one can leave off reading at any piece.
