Overview

The spirit of this book involves stretching, growing and learning about your child and yourself. It is a lighthearted journey of short stories for anyone who has a child in their life. The book depicts Lisa's early years and her many adventures while in elementary school. There are many books on the shelves about others who have had a child with Down syndrome. The difference is that with Lisa's story there is humor mixed in. She was welcomed into the world for who she is, and the family helped her to learn, to grow and to have an upbeat attitude that will last her a lifetime.

Author Information

Angee Barcus is a wife, mother, and author. She writes to help sort out issues that might otherwise fester and linger. Having a child with a disability was the last thing on her mind when Lisa was born. Before this fourth baby arrived, she was thinking more about all the dirty diapers and extra loads of clothes, as well as having to once again function on less hours of sleep at night. After Lisa was born, her thoughts were quickly flooded with what now notions. Angee's nursing career allowed her to work in a school system, helping many young children with developmental disabilities. This gave her another viewpoint about children with disabilities, which helped her when writing about Lisa. Angee had a newspaper column that enlightened others about disability issues in and around where she lived, and she alternated those articles with short stories about Lisa. From that experience, she wrote this first book and has started on the second one about Lisa, sharing more of the same about Lisa's younger years and revealing some of the more difficult stories as Lisa has grown to adulthood.
