Overview

Travel at superluminal velocities has been a taboo topic since the wide-scale acceptance of Special Relativity. Many theories have been presented over the decades since including those proposing methods of hyperspatial travel. However, many of these theories are full of neologisms and other diatribe with assertions of their certain validity and eventually fall by the way-side on the scrap-heap of pseudoscience. Superluminal theories that are more scientifically plausible usually fall way-side when the experimental evidence yields null results. In this book, I present some superluminal travel concepts that in theory accept all current and well-established scientific paradigms but which involve some perhaps overlooked kinematics. These kinematical scenarios require cosmic scale travel to work, if indeed, the proposed physics can pass muster with further scrutiny. The reader may be put at ease in that I welcome attempts to rebuttal my arguments presented herein, and if I can be proven wrong, kudos to the folks who make such arguments. The difference between a mature theorist and a quack is that a mature theorist welcomes opportunities for rebuttal. Quacks on the other hand are certain their ideas are correct and they also are often ignorant of developments in physics that would nullify their theories. Upon reading this book, the reader will obtain a feel for how superluminal travel may be possible. The caveats here are an expanding universe and the required cosmic travel distances. Traveling ever closer to the speed of light through space can be a mantra and a rallying theme for we as the civilization of Humanity to approach light speed and take advantage of universal space-time expansion. Our universe may be open or perhaps merely marginally so. In either case, it may be destined to expand forever. So, we may yet effectively break the light-speed barrier by the methods proposed herein for which the initial conditions for such travel are set up and maintained locally. The beautiful concepts of such theories of Cosmic Special Relativity are such that where valid, as the universe continues to age, greater and greater superluminal velocities become possible. We as the civilization of Humanity are poised to begin our eternal dream vacation trip down the unimaginably infinite road toward the omega point. With NASA's plans to send human exploratory missions to Mars by the 2030s and the asteroids before then, and the many bold space exploration and commercialization plans in the works by the space agencies of other nations and private interests, we are just starting our eternal road trip. The stops, sight-seeing, and discoveries along the way will help us as citizens of the cosmos to evolve and grow spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, psychologically, and socially. Now, this is a future worth living for.
