OverviewSimulacra gives the reader 100 poems in natural settings with un-natural people in them. While themes are often universal, locations are specific, and Shannon Webster's roots in the Rocky Mountain West add a layer of identity to the poetry. Humor and lament share a place in this collection, that shows both the grit and the glory of being alive. Characters portrayed seem both real and speculative, young to aging. Webster is marginally irreverent, and holds hilarity and sorrow together in one book. Simulacra does not shy from political or religious critique. The poems may seem at once personal and common, may whisper in your ear, or thunder with recognition.
