Overview

Sierra Leone's overwhelming 11-year civil war destroyed much of its infrastructure, and left its economy in disarray. In 2004, two years after the end of the war, Sierra Leone asked the Investment Climate (IC) Advisory Services of the World Bank Group to help create a better business and investment climate that would lay a foundation for the country's future economic growth. One focus area was to promote Sierra Leone as a vibrant and desirable location for business, particularly in one of the country's most promising sectors: tourism.Presently Sierra Leone is making waves in tourism as the infrastructures are being reorganizing to accommodate tourism industry need.Sierra Leone's main tourist appeal is its natural beauty. The West African state offers secluded white sandy beaches, unspoilt rainforests and a series of breathtaking waterfalls. Though tourism was marred by the civil war, the appeal of its lush tropical surroundings, since peace was restored, has drawn many visitors back. The people of the country are hospitable and friendly. Freetown is the capital and it offers many attractions including a 500-year-old cotton tree, a museum and the King Jimmy Market with various bazaars for a unique shopping experience. In the northern region of Sierra Leone the Outamba-Kilimi National Park can be found, and aside from the magnificent scenery the park also offers elephants, chimpanzees and pygmy hippos. The tropical rain forest is the home to various endangered species of monkeys, baboons, birds, butterflies and also a variety of antelope and buffalo families. For those more interested in plant life the Sakanbiarwa plant reserve with its impressive collection of orchids is a must see. This eBook titled: Tour Sierra Leone is provided for your Guide and information when touring Sierra Leone, you don't need to get lost or frustrated during your tour in any way, you will have the knowledge of the environment, and the places you intend to visit ahead of your visit.
