She has written and illustrated picture books and is the beloved illustrator of many books by 2018 Virginia Hamilton Lifetime Achievement Award winner, author Eloise Greenfield. Jan is a Coretta Scott King Book Awards winner, and her heartwarming art has been awarded numerous ""bests,"" including by Bank Street College Best Books for Children, the Junior Library Guild Best Book, and the NAACP's Image Award nomination for her illustration of The Great Migration.
