What we expect, all too often, is exactly what we get. Nowhere is this more true than in education, where teachers' expectations of students are crucial. The self-fulfilling prophecy should be of great interest to teachers, both those in training and those in service. ROBERT T. TAUBER is Professor of Education at The Behrend College of the Pennsylvania State University at Erie. He is the author of five books, including Acting Lessons for Teachers: Using Performance Skills in Education (Praeger, 1994).
