Author Information

"Raven has written several award-winning picture books for children. Her poetry is found in kids' magazines such as Highlights for Children, Humpty Dumpty, The School Magazine, and Ladybug. She is the Creative & Publishing Advisor for RedClover Reader and writes The Book Bug column for Story Monsters Ink magazine. Raven is inspired by nature, whimsical art, kindness, and laughter. She's particular to family time, Scrabble games, morning yoga, and reading a good book in the sunshine.Growing up in a creative and loving home between the city of Philadelphia and the rural beautiful New Jersey shoreline, I've written poetry since childhood. My writing has taken me on many adventures - from a career at Atlantic Records in NYC as a songwriter, a greeting card verse writer, to a focus on children's poetry as a mom!Over the years I've had several children's picture books published, and most recently authored, Shimmer/Poems about Night (Spork/2017), A Cheer for the Year (Spork/2018), and A Star Full of Sky (Daffydowndilly/2017). I'm especially excited about my MacLaren-Cochrane rhyming picture book, My Community, celebrating diversity!I write poetry and have artwork in a variety of magazines such as Highlights for Children, Ladybug, Hopscotch, Stinkwaves, Fun for Kidz, Cricket, Spider, Parents, and Children Together, Hello Highlights, High Five, and The Friend Magazine. My work is included in anthologies, DVDs, and CDs. I have received awards for poetry from the SCBWI and Poetry Soup, and enjoy presenting children's writing workshops. Creating children's books is what Pamela C. Rice enjoys. Each book is warmly illustrated by Rice and offers written artistic expression of her childhood experiences and inspirations that children will find fun, imaginative and educational. The title ""The Painting Speaks"", is enriched with notes from internationally celebrated artists such Synthia Saint James, Evita Tezeno, and Clyde D. Lewis. This artistic collaboration results in an amazing story of a young girl who realizes her appreciation for art. She visits a local art gallery with her class and discovers the marvels of fine arts ""that speaks to her"" in a story that both parents and children will surely adore.Rice grew up surrounded by creative art and design, and believes that she is a person born to write and illustrate for children. Both Pam's father and brother were in the field of graphic design. Her father was a commercial artist, and her brother was in textile and artesian design. With over 30 years of independent and corporate experience in advertising, graphic design, and visual communications, Rice has earned high recognition and top accolades with over 40 design awards. She has made guest appearances as a lecturer at the Illinois Academy of Design and Merchandising and at Northeastern Illinois University. She has also taught at the University of Illinois-Chicago, in the Principal Scholar's Program.Pam has illustrated for various authors such as Anna K. Morris, Emma Young, and Donna Beasley to name a few. For many years Pam has developed her unique illustrative style and is excited to create content that both parents and children can enjoy. She is currently working with a translator to bring more diversity and inclusion to the library of books."
