Overview

God is the original poet--such that much of the Bible expresses eternal truth in beautifully indirect ways. Rhyme, meter, parallelism, and metaphor provoke our imagination to a deeper consideration of spiritual realities. Rhyme and Rest comes alongside weary pilgrims and invites them to enjoy anew the mercies of God through poetic devotions, to find spiritual rest through personal psalms of prayer and praise. It offers a weekly rhythm of pondering, staying, and praying. Come to the feast and encounter the God who speaks compassion to strugglers, hope to the discouraged, and grace to sinners.

Reviews

"""When I see Kerrie DeBerry's poetry, I stop and read. She has a gift for capturing everyday life in gospel perspective. She encourages me to persevere in faith, hope, and love."" --Collin Hansen, editor in chief, The Gospel Coalition ""Poetry takes our raw emotion and crafts it into order. Kerrie DeBerry has brought poetry and Scripture together in her lovely book, Rhyme and Rest. Her poems are simple enough to read in one sitting, yet deep enough to ponder for a week with the help of the tools she provides. She proves to be a faithful companion, coming alongside her readers with sympathy, insight, and humor."" --Rondi Lauterbach, author of Hungry: Learning to Feed Your Soul with Christ ""Kerrie DeBerry writes beautifully--as a wife, as a mother, but more importantly, as a daughter of God. Her poems are thoughtful and thought-provoking, biblical and gospel-centered, and practical and spiritually enriching. Pick up and read as she draws her readers closer to the word and to our Lord and Savior in the midst of our weary yet hopeful pilgrimage."" --Joel E. Kim, president, Westminster Seminary California ""Rhyme and Rest is a refreshing devotional resource that is packed with gospel application. The wisdom and humility shaped in the fires of mothering as a pastor's wife have resulted in rich, heart-deep poems that look to Jesus as the author and perfecter of our faith. Whether you love rhymes like me and are a lover of poetry or are simply a weary pilgrim longing for the life-giving well of Christ, all readers will benefit from this treasury of truth."" --Timothy Brindle, author of The Unfolding ""In this collection, Kerrie DeBerry helps build us up by slowing us down. Poetry always requires us to pause and think, to consider how the words are strung together and what meaning is conveyed through the imagery employed. In Rhyme and Rest, the meaning of each poem is, in one way or another, 'to live is Christ.' What message could be more important to meditate upon in our fast-paced, me-centered day?"" --Jonathan Landry Cruse, poetry editor, Modern Reformation"
