Overview

Ash and Jack return for the second of the Soul Doctor series. The second of the Soul Doctor books sees the return of Ash and another set of case histories recorded by his assistant Jack Rivers, involving mysterious psychic disturbances and soul sicknesses unsolvable by ordinary medical means. Set against the background of their residential nursing home on the South Downs, many stories play out: the unwary visitor to sacred sites who falls into a dangerous trance, the overshadowing of a young artist who paints like a Renaissance master, the deadly haunting of an army camp, the Jacobean play with a reputation worse than that of Macbeth, the man still being stalked by a prisoner put away for life, and the young woman trying to return from a life of abuse. Ash and Jack delve deeper into the human psyche, reaching into the timeless zones to bring healing to shattered lives. This time they face dangers that require them to seek sanctuary themselves. 'Problems often cannot be healed this side of the worlds, because we need to go beyond time and place into eternity and space to find the solutions.'

Reviews

Bringing Dion Fortune's inspirational Dr Taverner persona firmly into the 21st century, 'Ash' gently inducts the reader into the mysterious forces and forms of the invisible world as he solves an impressive variety of thoroughly modern problems of the soul in a world where virtual reality can be a potent force for evil. A great read! - Penny Billington, author of The Keys to the Temple. This book is a gem of story, wisdom, adventure and healing all combined. It is spiritually uplifting and inspiring in a time when many find themselves facing seemingly unsurmountable challenges. I feel that I have been present in the Sanctuary of the Beacon these last few days and the things I have learned from within its walls will continue to resonate and unfold in their own time. - Antonia Newlands Caitlin Matthews is the rare author who is also an adept, having spent decades as a well-known practitioner, teacher, writer, and 'soul doctor' herself. These short stories introduce us to a fictional soul doctor, the psychologist, Dr. Ashington, and his assistants, relating his techniques and the cases he is confronted with in very realistic ways. Dr. Ashington's patients present symptoms that mainstream medicine has been unable to address effectively: the sudden onset of an odd obsession in an otherwise healthy news broadcaster; a veteran whose PTSD is more than ordinary; a rock singer whose stage act has dangerously become more than an act. - Anna Meadows
