OverviewThis book reviews water treatment technologies for the removal of pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs). It provides the reader with an overview of state-of-the-art techniques and recent efforts to develop more sustainable approaches. After nearly two decades of research into the presence and impact of PhACs in the environment, they remain one of the hottest topics in the fields of environmental chemistry, toxicology and engineering. Accordingly, intensive research efforts are currently being devoted to water treatment technologies that can reduce the presence of these emerging contaminants in water bodies. This book examines various types of contaminated water from industry, hospitals and urban wastewater. It provides the reader with a range of potential solutions for water treatment and reuse, and addresses the advancement of analytical tools for evaluating the performance and efficiency of treatment technologies. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationSara Rodriguez-Mozaz holds a PhD in Applied Chemistry (2005) and has been a Research Scientist at the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) in Spain since 2009. Her research focuses on the origin, fate and ecological impact of various emerging contaminants (pharmaceuticals, endocrine disruptors and other urban derived contaminants) in the aquatic environment, including biota. She is also studying the removal and transformation of these emerging compounds by means of alternative water treatments principally designed for water reuse. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and has been involved in several national and international projects, including ECsafeSEAFOOD and StARE. She is currently participating in the H2020 projects SCOREwater and HYDROUSA and in the national project PLAS-MED. Paqui Blánquez Cano (PhD) is an Associate Professor at the Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering Department, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). A Chemical Engineer who completed her PhD in 2005, she is currently the assistant director of teaching action at the Engineering School (UAB). She conducts her research as part of the “Biodegradation of Industrial Contaminants and Waste Valorisation” Group, whose goal is to develop processes for the biodegradation of industrial pollutants in effluents as well as in soils. She has published 35 papers in indexed journals and participated in 14 competitive projects. Montserrat Sarrà is an Associate Professor at the Engineering School, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), where she also completed her PhD in Biotechnology (1994). She is a former coordinator of the PhD Program in Environmental Science and Technology (UAB) (2006-2018) and the current coordinator of the Degree Program in Chemical Engineering. Her research interests focus on the bioremediation of xenobiotic compounds and the development of corresponding treatment processes. She conducts her research at the Department of Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering. She has participated in 16 competitive projects and published more than 60 papers in international journals. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
