OverviewThe transport regulations, first published in 1961, establish standards of safety which provide an acceptable level of control of the radiation, criticality and thermal hazards to persons, property and the environment associated with the transport of radioactive material. They apply to all modes of transport by land, water, or in the air, including transport that is incidental to the use of the radioactive material. This covers all operations and conditions associated with and involved in the movement of radioactive material, including the design, fabrication and maintenance of packaging; preparation, consigning, handling, loading, carriage, storage in transit and receipt at the final destination of packages. This publication supersedes all previous editions, and its requirements will take effect on 1 January 2005.
