Author Information

Samir Melki, MD, Ph.D., completed a fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, (Harvard Medical School) in 2000. His previous education included an MD PhD from Vanderbilt University and an Ophthalmology residency at Georgetown University. Dr. Melki founded Boston Vision in 2000, an academically-oriented practice. He joined the Cornea service at Mass Eye and Ear (MEEI) in 2007 as a part-time faculty and continues to be involved in the training of residents and fellows. Dr. Melki was the Medical Director for Ophthalmology at the UK Specialist Hospitals from 2005 till 2013 where he established and managed quality controls for about 20,000 cataract procedures.  His other teaching activities include a fellowship program at Boston Vision and a collaboration with Boston University to tutor students undergoing a Masters in Health Sciences. His clinical practice is oriented towards refractive surgery as well as cataract and corneal surgery. He has performed thousands of refractive procedures since 1998. His academic activities have led to the publication of numerous peer-reviewed articles, 4 textbooks as well as regular participation in various courses at US and international meetings. Jason Brenner, MD, started his education at Lafayette College where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in medical ethics. During his time at Lafayette College, he was also a full-time collegiate athlete in rowing. After his undergrad, he attended medical school at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington D.C. He then completed his residency training at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he was also Chief Resident. Dr. Brenner is a board-certified ophthalmologist, specializing in refractive, cataract, cornea and anterior segment surgery.  Although his primary focus is clinical, he enjoys teaching which includes the fellowship program at Boston Vision as well as the cornea fellows from Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.  Dr Brenner is a lecturer, part-time, at Harvard Medical School and mentors masters students from Boston University. Wassef Chanbour, MD, FICO, completed his Cornea and Refractive surgery fellowship in a b\Boston Vision center and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard Medical School teaching institution in Boston. He joined the University of Minnesota as an assistant professor in 2022. His practice includes all patients with different medical and surgical corneal and anterior segment diseases. He treats adults and children with the most advanced surgical techniques including corneal transplants with less invasive partial-thickness procedures like DALK, DSEK and DMEK. He has also been performing corneal cross-linking for keratoconus. In addition, Dr. Chanbour performs complex anterior segment surgeries including cataract surgeries, sutured intraocular lenses, iris repair and anterior segment reconstruction.
