Overview

"Dorothy Canote has graced us with another lovely coffee table book of her experiences, thoughts and paintings. Her subjects range the full gamut from her family origins to research of her original home in Avalon, located in northern Missouri to Mexico to mitochondria and women in her life. Her love of family is evident from her depiction, both in words and watercolor painting (from memory) of her beloved Grandma Jesse and her home. Other subjects include travel stories from what she terms her ""Middle Years,"" which showcase her rather fearless adventures during that time, such as caving, canoeing and all with complete with illustrations of the beauty found at those spots. We see her love of science in both her essays and illustrations."

Author Information

Dorothy Canote grew up in Avalon, Missouri, and received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Missouri Valley College. She earned a Masters degree in Agronomy from the University of Missouri-Columbia, followed by post-graduate studies in Fisheries and Wildlife. Her resume includes eight years as a study director in aquatic toxicology at ABC Labs, finishing her professional career as a science instructor for ten years at Hickman High School in Columbia. Retirement from teaching was followed by growing produce, herbs, and flowers for the Columbia Farmers Market, during which time she also rediscovered her love for art and turned her hand to watercolor painting. This is Dorothy's second book featuring some of her watercolor paintings and essays about them and the thoughts and experiences they illustrate.
