Overview

The book is for those with eating disorders, disordered eating behaviors or chronic dieting behaviors. The premise of the book is how to recover eating those foods people avoid out of fear partly due to the exposure to inaccurate nutrition information. Each chapter presents evidence for why we can include different foods and food groups in our diets (such as carbohydrates and fats), as I provide science based information on how foods benefit the body. Additionally, each chapter includes ideas on how to incorporate different foods back into your diet, along with recipes at the end of each section created and/or used by both current and past eating disorder clients. The final chapter of the book is specifically on developing a healthy exercise plan without a focus on weight loss as the main outcome. This includes consulting your doctor and establishing an exercise plan with an appropriate exercise specialist, especially if there are medical concerns or limitations. The exercise chapter focuses on the mental health benefits of exercise and medical benefits of exercise.

Written by a nutrition professional, this book is a useful tool for anyone working to recover from an eating disorder, free themselves from the rules and rigidity of disordered eating, or wanting to heal their relationship with food by breaking away from the dieting mentality that pervades our society. In a nutshell, Sunny is acknowledging what few are willing to admit that recovery and finding freedom with food requires education, support, real-life experiences and purposeful action. At a minimum, it requires facts and truths to dispel the myths. Infused with recipes, each chapter offers the wisdom of an experienced clinician alongside scientific evidence and practical strategies to guide your journey to freedom. Paula A. Quatromoni, DSc, MS, RD Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Health Sciences, Boston University Senior Consultant, Walden Behavioral Care If you fear food as being the fattening enemy, Sunny's book can help you transform those fears into positive fueling. I particularly like the How to sections in each chapter; for example, how to start consuming carbs, how to enjoy the flavor of fats; how to savor sweets, how to reduce anxiety at a restaurant, how to manage an exercise program, etc. Helpful explanations for why the nutrients in food are essential, in addition to the yummy recipes and the how to tips, offer readers the tools needed to march forward towards recovery from eating issues and find peace with food.
