Overview

The key points of this book are... (1)Big oil companies do not aggressively pursue and contain their releases of hazardous chemicals on a timely basis. (There may be as many as 3,000 reported releases of product per year nationally... but have you ever seen a big oil company rush to the scene, to pursue and contain any of their releases of product?) (2)Big oil companies are operating their service stations in petroleum impacted soil. (Have you ever seen a service station take a tank out of the ground, remove the hazardous chemicals, and put the tank back in the ground... then continue doing business?) (3)And here's the shocker... our government has passed laws that explicitly allow big oil companies to operate their service stations in petroleum impacted soil. (4)As a result... big oil companies do not restore the environment to its original condition. (Obviously, it's impossible to restore the environment when there are no controls on releasing, containing and operating in hazardous chemicals.) (5)And this could not happen without the support of the scientific community. (What scientist thinks it's a good idea for a release of hazardous chemicals to go unrestrained?) The laws, policies and procedures regarding the releases of hazardous chemicals into the environment are indefensible. Imagine... a CEO standing in front of his customers and stockholders justifying their unrestrained releasing of hazardous chemicals into hundreds of our communities throughout the country. The customers would be outraged and the stockholders would flee like rats from a sinking ship. And the reason the stockholders would be fleeing is... the actions of the big oil company's CEOs, executives, engineers, geologists, legal counsels and other are inconsistent with their representations... of being a responsible corporate citizen. If you and your friends are environmental activists you'll be outraged at our government and the big oil companies. Thanks - Steve
