OverviewMy grandmothers were both good cooks. They had lots of practice like most large farm families had back in the day. One grandmother was known for her chocolate cake and her biscuits. Cat head biscuits as she called them. The other Grandmother was known for her pound cake and egg pie. While the other ladies' cakes showed up for church lunch looking all pristine and unblemished, MaMa's (as she was called by us grandkids) cake always showed up missing 2 slices out of it. She and Papa would not pass up warm pound cake, fresh out of the oven, the day before church. They knew Jesus would understand. While their recipes are shared with the family, what I wish was saved was those recipes written down in their handwriting. This journal is what I wish they had at the time. A place to write down those recipes. Even when they knew the recipes by heart, and never looked at them again. This journal, and their handwriting would be one way for us to hold onto their memory. 150 pages. 6x9 inches. Cream colored paper. Front and back, so enough for 74 recipes. The artwork on the cover is a varnished watercolor on Yupo board by yours truly. Andy Mathis. signature member of the Georgia Watercolor Society.
