Excerpt from Re-Discovery of the Old Testament For Biblical quotations I have kept largely to familiar words, though I have frequently modified the translation to some extent for reasons which are not stated, since they would distract the general reader. In no case has a change been introduced for a priori or dogmatic reasons, but only where philological or textual support could be provided to justify the change. It is a deep grief to me that while this book has been in the press Principal H. Wheeler Robinson has passed from our midst. I have left the Dedication unchanged. I have to thank Professor A. R. Johnson for his help in reading the proofs, and for his stimulating friendship, which has yielded many suggestions embodied in this book. I have also to thank Professor T. W.
