Reviews

This book presents excellent anatomical and procedural diagrams as well as clear explanations of the biology of wound healing. The author distills the most important surgical concepts into an invaluable paperback resource for medical students, dermatology residents, and others in the medical field who perform dermatologic surgeries. The purpose is to teach medical students and other medical professionals how to properly perform various dermatologic procedures and the physiologic insights into why treatments should be undertaken in such manners. The diagrams are clear and easy to understand. They are not overly complicated or overly labeled. The audience is medical novices for whom mastering dermatologic surgical techniques is important for their future practices. This reference is written for someone just starting to do dermatologic procedures, but I found it full of practical tips for a seasoned clinician. The authors have helpfully included their sources for obtaining the supplies mentioned. The drawings on how to do fingernail surgeries are well done. In fact, all of the diagrams are excellent. The chapter on how to do a preoperative evaluation is comprehensive and should be committed to heart for anyone doing these procedures. I highly recommend this book. It is superbly written by dermatologists who clearly are knowledgeable and walk the talk. Patricia Wong, MD
